Drak
lives in the bead shop. The glass beads remind her
of cascading drops of water; she likes the brightness and
the prettiness.
It is her one concession to femininity; normally
she’s in the hardware or computer shop, fetching tools or components to fix things. Every tool imaginable
to an ambitious dragonfly is close at hand. She’s built herself
a small hammock where she dozes in the middle of the day
among her half-completed tasks, because Balance is Everything.
Drakanick is a gentle soul but her music makes up for that.
She is hugely into heavy metal and the darker side of Goth.
After complaints from the others, she tends to wear earphones
and if approached from the wrong side, she shrieks and faints with fright,
causing a huge clatter which the others find almost more stressful than
the music.
So they leave her alone and this secretly suits her very well.

Inventing Drak:
With Drak there were many things to consider. The final design could still change because of the greater freedom 3d would offer as opposed to 2d, where time limits textures like the surface of the eyes and the wings or propeller. Click here to view her progress. So far.
Inspirations and Research
Drak proved to be very interesting to build. Click here to view the slideshow of the many things that went into making up Drak.
Back story:
Drak likes her own company because she has low boundaries. If someone
asks for help she feels obliged to drop everything and help them straight
away, not yet having learned that sometimes it’s okay to say 'not right
now'. This is her task during the story, to find more of a balance between
giving and getting. Until she learns that, she sometimes pulls a passive-aggressive
move, arriving very late, or ‘forgetting’ to do something, or
doing it but spending lots of time complaining to Cogs who’s barely
listening anyway.
The others feel a bit awkward about this; sometimes they need something done
but they never know whether it’s really okay to ask. They then try to
‘spoil’ or bribe Drak in unsuitable ways, e.g. Scribble will arrive
and offer to do her a make-over. Naturally Drak takes this the wrong way.
Her mandibles can’t really support lipstick for instance. She doesn’t
wear make-up and feels criticised. So she goes off and hammers away and makes
new armour for herself, ever more fantastical, while Rammstein pounds in her
head and new inventions form.
She tends to act tough and tender by turns and is basically still finding
herself. If she was a human, she’d be a 17 year old IT prodigy. Cogs
tries to help but forgets what Drak was saying. Sheena treats her with caution
because she knows Drak made her what she is and what Drak gives, Drak can
take away. Sheena’s greatest fear is that Drak will one day realise
that. |
